4 dead in shooting between jail guards, cops in Muntinlupa

Two jail guards, a policeman and an ex-cop were killed in a shootout in Muntinlupa City Thursday morning.
In a report, the Southern Police District said declared dead on arrival at the Medical Center of Muntinlupa were JO1 Felino Salazar, 48, and JO2 Elmer Malindao, 33. Both are assigned at the Muntinlupa City Jail.
A suspect declared dead on spot was PO1 Jover John Lardizabal of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO)
Former PO3 Arnel Rubio was declared dead on arrival at the same hospital. Rubio was dismissed from the police force due to grave misconduct in 2016.
Muntinlupa police are holding in custody a person of interest identified as Prison Guard 1 Dee Jay Tanael, assigned at the Bureau of Correction (BUCOR). Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) personnel said Tanael drove the motorcycle as he and Rubio tried to flee.
The incident took place at 8:30 am along Barangay Tunasan, a few meters away from the Muntinlupa City jail
Senior Supt. Dante Novicio, police chief of Muntinlupa, said the two jail guards were on a motorcycle on their way home from night duty when the suspects shot them.
Jail guards JO1s John Edades, Moldero Sogan, and Richard Basiloy rushed to the scene and they found the bodies of Salazar and Malindao on the road.
The suspects tried to escape on a motorcycle but jail guards shot it out with them for about two minutes. Lardizabal died on the spot while Rubio was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. DMS
