40 HPG personnel to caution motorists, drivers not allowed to leave homes

May 19, 2020

Around 40 motorcycle riders of the Philippine National Police- Highway Patrol Group will be deployed along national roads of Metro Manila to caution motorists and drivers who are not allowed to go out of their homes.

In a radio interview, Police Brigadier General Eliseo Cruz, HPG director said they expect more Authorized Person Outside of their Residence (APOR) to travel which means more vehicles are expected in the road.

“We will have changes on our checkpoints. We will now only have random checking. Here in EDSA we already pulled out our 24/7 checkpoints and deployed them on other major highways in Metro Manila to give space now that we are under MECQ and we expect heavy volume of vehicles,” Cruz said.

He said random checking will be implemented to prevent the buildup of traffic.

“We did not totally go out of EDSA. We will deploy more than 40 HPG motorcycle riders to caution (drivers). You will be shocked that while you are driving an HPG rider will be beside you to check if you are authorized ( to leave your home),” he added.

Cruz said they will ask the driver to stop for a while to inspect if they have ID authorizing they can travel.

He said they will issue temporary operator's permit from Land Transportation Office (LTO) as they were deputized by LTO and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to issue violation tickets.

“The MMDA ticket is ordinance violation receipt that’s why we will coordinate with MMDA and ask them if they can come with us,” Cruz said.

“So that will be our strategy now aside from mobile checkpoints,” he said. Ella Dionisio/DMS
