400 Marines sent to Marawi City

The Philippine Marines sent more troops to Marawi City on Thursday despite the claim of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) they would complete the clearing operation in the city. Captain Ryan Lacuesta, public affairs officer of the Philippine Marines, said around 400 troops of the 7th Marine Battalion was sent to Marawi after a send-off ceremony in Villamor Air Base in Pasay City Thursday morning.. “The 7 th Marine Battalion had just completed its retraining and refurbishment of equipment will be send to Marawi City as part of the reinforcement to the units that are currently waging battles to the Maute group that attack Marawi City,” he said. Lacuesta said the 7th Marine Battalion was transported to Cagayan de Oro through the use of Philippine Air Force C-130. He confirmed that with additional forces the number of Marine battalions in Marawi City is now three. It can be recalled that the Armed Forces of the Philippine (AFP) sent Marines to Marawi after the clash with the Maute terrorist group started May 23. (Robina Asido/DMS)
