June 30, 2019
Major General Guillermo Eleazar, director of National Capital Region Police Office, on Sunday presented the five alleged members of a gun-for-hire group who were allegedly involved in a shooting incident last June 28 in Caloocan City.
In a press briefing, Eleazar said through continuous investigation and follow up operation of Caloocan City Police Station, they were able to arrest the suspects who were paid to kill the victim, identified as Eugene Borlaza, 38 years old, and a businessman in Barangay 176, Bagong Silang, Caloocan City where the incident transpired.
“Based on the investigation and follow up, they (Caloocan police) found out that the victim was killed because he was having an alleged affair with the partner of someone (currently) in abroad,” said Eleazar.
“Allegedly, the one working abroad was the one who hired the gunman… according to the suspect, he was paid P5,000 to commit the crime,” he added.
According to Northern Police District, the incident happened around 6:45 pm last Friday while the victim was walking in the said address when the suspect, identified as Randy Vicente, on board a motorcycle, approached Borlaza and shot him, which resulted to his death.
Eleazar said they were able to find the suspects the next day, June 29, after a witness revealed the whereabouts of the one who drove the motorcycle used in the crime. The driver was identified as Jandrex Paguyanan, who then pointed the whereabouts of the other suspects.
Authorities were able to confiscate firearms, magazines, pieces of ammunition, toy gun and magazine, two motorcycles and mobile phones.
“This is a murder case but we are validating and checking if they were involved in illegal drugs or involved before with other gun-for-hire activities,” said Eleazar.
The arrested suspects are currently under the custody of Caloocan City Police Station. Ella Dionisio/DMS
