5-hectare dug rehab facility to rise in Cavite

July 24, 2018

A five-hectare drug rehabilitation facility will be built in Trece Martires City, Cavite after the Department of Health (DOH) – Calabarzon, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and the local government of Cavite recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Drug Abuse Treatment and Rehabilitation Center in Barangay Osorio.

“We will apply an evidence-based program for Calabarzon and adapt the modalities of community-based drug treatment and rehabilitation,” said DOH regional director Eduardo Janairo.

The modalities substance abuse rehabilitation prevention program includes the use of combined western and eastern medicine (like Ayurveda), detoxification, alternative medicines including blood analysis, acupuncture, wellness counselling and training, mentoring, and life coaching.

“This facility, once operational, will improve the patient’s arena of motion because of a more conducive environment, spacious facility with sceneries, and recreational amenities to enhance and provide them activity and amusement and the best place to regain their normal lives in a safe and healthy way,” pointed Janairo.

The health official said based on their experience using these modalities in the Mimaropa region, the standard drug rehabilitation takes two months.

“But this will depend on the patient’s determination and ability to cope from drug addiction, injuries and even physical and mental illness. That is why some takes about 7 days to about a month to recover,” said Janairo.

The government of Cavite donated the 5-hectare land, where the proposed 500-bed rehabilitation facility will be constructed.

Around 1.85 billion yen or around P878 million was given to the Philippine government from Japan thru JICA.

Janairo said the facility is expected to be completed by 2020. DMS
