50 PNP personnel now positive for COVID-19

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday said they recorded 50 personnel positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

According to the PNP-Health Service, an additional 21 confirmed cases of personnel infected with COVID-19 were recorded. This brought  the total to 50. Four more cops have recovered, raising the tally to eight recoveries.

The 21 confirmed cases were all assigned in Metro Manila aged between 25 to 55 years old.

The recovered personnel were a 53-year-old policeman from Marikina; , a 52-year-old cop from Caloocan;  a 46-year-old policeman from Quezon City; and a 42-year-old cop from Ilocos Norte.

They were all discharged from the hospital.

PNP Health Service also recorded a total of 254 PNP personnel who are categorized as Probable Persons Under Investigation (Probable PUIs) \.

These are broken down into 29 Police Commissioned Officers (PCO), 214 Police Non-Commissioned Officers (PNCO) and 11 Non-Uniformed Personnel (NUP).

A total of 348 personnel were recommended as Suspected Persons Under Investigation (Suspected PUIs), broken down into  102 PCO, 218 PNCO, and 28 NUP.

Also, a total of 339 personnel including 163 Probable PUIs and 158 Suspected PUIs have completed self or home quarantine.

In a virtual briefing, Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar said all  personnel have now a record which would make contact tracing easy.

“So that if we are infected, we can always go back on our diary which can help us in contact tracing,” Eleazar said.

He said the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) is  assigned in the contact tracing once the Department of Health ask for their help.Ella Dionisio/DMS
