8 GABMMC staffers get COVID-19; hospital emergency room closed
April 29, 2020
Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso ordered the temporary closure of the emergency room of the Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center (GABMMC).
It will be closed from April 28 at 7:00 am until May 5 at 7:00 am. The order was made after eight staffers of the GABMMC tested positive for COVID-19: four doctors, one radiology technologist, one medical technologist and two nurses.
“The closure is to make way for general cleaning at disinfection operations at the hospital,” the mayor said.
GABMMC director Ted Martin said the hospital will not be admitting any patient during the closure of the emergency room.
However, the hospital’s outpatient services and its dialysis center will remain operational, while the facility will continue to cater to its existing patients, Martin said.
“The hospital is not on lockdown. We still have admitted patients under our care. Since the hospital is only closed for admission, all incoming patients will be referred to the other five city hospitals with proper coordination. No direct admissions will be entertained,” he explained.
Incoming surgical and medical cases will be referred to Ospital ng Maynila, while incoming obstretics and pediatric patients will be referred to Ospital ng Sampaloc, Ospital ng Tondo and Justice Jose Abad Santos General Hospital.
Domagoso reminded his constituents to remain truthful regarding their condition amid the crisis.DMS
