October 8, 2020
About 92 percent of Filipinos believe that President Rodrigo Duterte has done well in terms of preventing the spread of COVID-19 in the country, according to the latest Pulse Asia survey.
Released on Thursday, Pulse Asia said 62 percent of Filipinos “truly approve” of Duterte's performance on COVID-19 response while 30 percent “somewhat approve”.
Only three percent expressed disapproval while five percent were undecided. The latest survey was conducted last September 14-20 which was based on a sample of 1,200 representatives nationwide.
In a press briefing, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque thanked the Filipinos for giving Duterte another good rating.
“We are humble and further inspired to serve the Filipino people in this time of pandemic and crisis,” Roque said.
“Thank you for again giving your trust to the President,” he said.
Majority of the people who approved of Duterte's actions came from Mindanao at 98 percent followed by 92 percent in Visayas, 91 percent in Luzon and 87 percent in Metro Manila.
The survey also showed that eight out of every 10 Filipinos have a positive opinion about the work done by the Duterte administration to control the spread of the virus.
Pulse Asia said 51 percent “somewhat” approved on government's action in controlling the spread of the virus while six disapproved.
Most of those who approved of government's response came from Visayas at 86 percent followed by Mindanao and Luzon at 85 percent and 78 percent in National Capital Region (NCR).
As to providing assistance or subsidy to those who lost their livelihood and jobs because of the lockdown, 84 percent of Filipinos also approved this action.
“It may be noted that Mindanawons are more inclined to approve of the Duterte administration’s efforts to assist those who lost their sources of income as a result of the pandemic compared to Metro Manilans,” the survey noted.
Seven percent disapproved of the assistance given by government and nine percent were undecided.
A recent survey by Pulse Asia showed a 91 percent trust rating and 91 percent performance rating on the President.
“The President, the entire Cabinet members and the IATF will serve the public until the end,” Roque said. Ella Dionisio/DMS
