An alleged sub-leader of the Abu Sayyaf and two others surrendered to government forces in Sulu last Monday, a military official said on Thursday.
Major Gen. Corleto Vinluan, 11th Infantry Division commander and Joint Task Force Sulu commander, said sub-leader Tuan Annual Jainal, 42, with Mubarak Abdullah, 26, and Nibras Salahudin Tampakan, 41, surrendered at the 1102nd Infantry Brigade of the 11th Infantry Division.
Vinluan said based on an intelligence report Tuan was involved in kidnappings of Indonesians and a British couple in southern Philippines.
"He is involved in the kidnapping of Indonesians and also in Hyron's," he said.
Vinluan said Tuan was known to provide safe haven to several members of ASG in Indanan, Sulu.
The three presented themselves, along with three high-powered rifles and one grenade launcher, to Col. Ignatius Patrimonio, chief of the 1102nd Infantry Brigade, at its headquarters in Camp Bud Datu, Brgy Tagbak, Indanan.
"With the military’s sustained peace-keeping efforts, the three decided to surrender realizing the deceptions and cruelty of the Abu Sayyaf; and the sincerity of the military to end the local armed conflict in the Province," he said.
"What is important is when the president went here, he said to convince the Abu Sayyaf to surrender, he said whatever their sin was let us see if we can give them amnesty," he added.
The three will be presented to Mayor Hermot Jikiri as chairman of Municipal Task Force- Ending the Local Armed Conflict of Indanan, Sulu to receive benefits and programs. Robina Asido/DMS
