Acting NCRPO director wants orderly dealings with media

October 28, 2019

The acting director of the National Capital Region Police Office ( NCRPO) on Monday said he only wants “orderliness” when it comes to dealing with media.

This was the response of Police Brigadier General Debold Sinas after a lawmaker called him “anti-media” for his protocols and decision to remove the NCRPO Press Corps office located at Kamuning Police Station 10 in Quezon City.

“First of all, I did not remove them. I’m just getting what is ours. I found out they have another office downstairs… I gave them time to withdraw,” Sinas said in his press briefing.

“Whatever you said, that’s it. I don’t care if they (press corps) get mad. I talked to them properly… it’s your opinion. It’s your report, so be it,” he added.

Ang Probinsyano Partylist Rep. Ronnie Ong said Sinas' policies towards the media is disrespectfulm adding the NCPRO chief is an embarrassment to the police leadership and be removed right away.

“That is his opinion… he is a congressman, I don’t want to argue with him. I’m not an anti-media. I’ve never been… what I want is orderliness (and) our Public Information Office (PIO) is functional,” said Sinas.

Sinas said he is ready to be removed because of the incident.

“If the OIC (Police Lieutenant General Archie Francisco Gamboa) will relieve me, I will inform you. After an hour there will be a turnover,” he said.

In a separate press briefing, Gamboa asked the public to give Sinas a chance since he just assumed office.

“You know, each leader of PNP has different style. Let’s give a chance but I will remind him whatever I can remind him but let’s not jump to conclusions,” he said.

“Remember, General Sinas did well in Cebu. Probably few adjustments because this is the NCR but I do respect whatever the decision of General Sinas because he is responsible on what he is doing whether it will fail, it succeeds. It is his decision so I would respect that,” he added.

Both officials assured the media they will have an office whether in Quezon City Police District or the NCRPO headquarters. Ella Dionisio/DMS
