September 23, 2020

The number of active COVID-19 cases among the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) frontliners has decreased to 77, the PCG reported on Wednesday.

According to the PCG, a total of 1,492 recoveries and zero deaths among 1,569 frontline personnel who are declared positive for COVID-19 were recorded from Sept. 11 to 22.

The number of active case went down from  237 early this month after 171 patients recovered.

"The health condition of infected PCG frontline personnel are regularly monitored, most especially the 18 cases of reinfection as of  22 September 2020 – three of whom remain active, while 15 others have successfully recovered for the second and third time of reinfection," the PCG said.

"Aside from the regular conduct of swab testing, the Command also ensures the regular supply of vitamins, PPE sets, and medical supplies; implementation of strategic deployment to ensure that frontline personnel have rest periods and work breaks; preparation of nutritious meals to boost their immune system; and utilization of UV lights to augment the manual disinfection of work stations and billeting areas," it stated.

The PCG also emphasized that "any day this month, the command is set to formally open its very own quarantine facility that can accommodate up to 224 frontline personnel at one time".

This facility will allow the PCG Medical Service to better manage the active COVID-19 cases within the organization for their speedy recovery and rehabilitation," it added. Robina Asido/DMS
