The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will adjust their deployment as President Rodrigo Duterte placed "low risk" areas in the country under general community quarantine (GCQ).
"The President has acted upon and has decided as to which regions and provinces will remain within the coverage of ECQ (enhance community quarantine) and which will now be placed on GCQ," said Brig. Gen. Edgard Arevalo, AFP spokesman, on Friday.
"The AFP will be in the forefront of its effective implementation in support of the national and local governments," he added.
Arevalo said the military will coordinate with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and local government units (LGU) for necessary adjustment on their troops' deployment.
"We will make the necessary adjustments in our troop deployments in coordination with the PNP and the LGUs in accordance with these changes in the coverage of community quarantine," he said.
Duterte extended the enhanced community quarantine in high risk areas including Metro Manila and other provinces until May 15, while the areas with moderate and low risk in the spread of COVID-19 were placed under general community quarantine starting May 1. Robina Asido/DMS
