AFP chief says military will support health workers battling COVID-19

In his Easter Sunday message, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Felimon Santos Jr. assures that the military will continue to stand  with the health workers to fight the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

"Christ is risen! This is the promise of hope throughout mankind as we celebrate Easter Sunday. I join the entire Christian faithfuls in celebrating this glorious day ever mindful of the promise of our risen Saviour that we will all conquer whatever crisis and troubles that befall us. This is especially true as we continue the fight against COVID-19, and with this promise, we will prevail," he said.

"We are in a difficult battle. But what the resurrection and our faith tell us is that nothing is impossible. Now is the time to renew our strengths and share it with the afflicted and the uncertain, for we are all in this together and we will heal as one," Santos said.

"The AFP will continue to stand side by side with the country's medical personnel. Over 16,000 troops are deployed to support the NTF (National Task Force) COVID-19's enforcement of community quarantine measures. Some 250 military doctors, nurses, and medical aides are also deployed in quarantine facilities," he added.

Santos also reiterate his call for the "cooperation, support, and patience" of the Filipino people to help the government in fighting the disease.

"As we are again reminded of our collective sacrifices, we continue to ask for the public's cooperation, support, and patience in our fight and triumph against this pandemic. If the risen Christ be for us, then who or what can be against us? We are assured by His promise and we will prevail," he said. Robina Asido/DMS
