December 15, 2019

The Armed Forces of the Philippines on Sunday strongly condemned the recent attack by the New People’s Army in Borongan City, Eastern Samar which resulted to the death of two people, including a policeman.

In a statement, Brigadier General Edgar Arevalo, AFP spokesman said the communist terrorist group showed once again its utter disregard of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law.

“The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) strongly condemns the heinous attack by the Communist Terrorist New People's Army in Borongan City, Eastern Samar in this season of hope, peace, and joy,” Arevalo said.

“In this abominable incident that killed a policeman and a civilian, and wounded fourteen others including children, the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) showed once again their utter disregard of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law by killing non-combatant civilians in their nefarious criminal activities,” he added.

Arevalo said this is the “same notorious group that masquerades themselves as pro-people and pro-human rights”.

AFP chief-of-staff General Noel Clement expressed his and the AFP’s sincere condolences to the bereaved families and loved ones of the victims and assured them that they were one with them in the quest for justice.

“Your government security efforts shall continue relentlessly the pursuit operations even as we collaborate with the Provincial Police who leads the law enforcement operation,” he said.

The AFP spokesperson urged the people to reject the communist rebels and report any attempt to infiltrate their communities.

“Those murderers have no place in our civilized society. They should be denied every chance to get near our children and ruin their future,” he said.

“We urge them to support and actively join government security forces in its campaign to eliminate these CTG and menace to the nation. Let us together help ensure for the next generation a peaceful and developed Philippines,” Arevalo added. Ella Dionisio/DMS
