The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said it is ready to assist the Bureau of Correction (BuCor) for the release of USMC Lance Corporal Joseph Scott Pemberton is in a jail facility inside the military camp.
Maj. Gen. Edgard Arevalo, AFP spokesman, assures that the military is ready in case the BuCor requests for their assistance for Pemberton's release.
"On the part of the AFP, we are not doing any preparation because it is the BuCor that is incharge on the detention, processing and actual release," he said.
"But while inside Camp Aguinaldo, we are ready to provide any assistance that will be requested by BuCor on the release of Lance Corp. Pemberton," he added.
President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday granted absolute pardon to Pemberton, who was convicted for killing a Filipino transgender. Pemberton earlier was ordered released by the Olongapo City Trial Court last Sept 2.
Arevalo also said that as of Wednesday, the AFP has not received any request from the BuCor. Robina Asido/DMS
