Albayalde urges new cops to uphold law, respect human rights

April 25, 2019

Philippine National Police (PNP) General Oscar Albayalde urged newly-appointed police officers to start their service right.

On Thursday, 138 graduates from Philippine National Police Academy "Sansiklab" Class of 2019 were accepted in the organization through a Badge of Honor ceremony led by Albayalde.

"Well first, they should do their service properly. What we advice to them is for them to start their service right so that they end their service right also," he told reporters after the event.

"And their service should uphold the law and of course respect human rights as this is the important things they should know," he added.

Albayalde said the 138 newly-appointed officers will be deployed first in different stations nationwide for election duties before they undergo commando training and basic internal security operations course.

"They will temporarily have an orientation and then be deploy on different station nationwide for election duties. And then after the election, they will have training like commando or basic internal security operations course," he said.

He said these officers will stay at stations as around 100,000 police officers will be deployed in different polling centers.

"They will serve as stay-behind force. We cannot deploy them in the field because they are lacking experience," said Albayalde.

Asked if the officers can choose their unit, Albayalde said they will try to give their preferred area.

"We will be the one to decide where they are needed although we will give their preference but if they cannot be assigned there or no vacancy, we are the one to decide where they will be assigned," he said.

The PNP chief is confident many will volunteer to join the Special Action Force.

During the event, Albayalde had a small talk with the officers seated in front asking where they came from and he told them to follow police operation procedures.

The top five students of the class received their own .9mm pistol while the whole class got their allowance, service pistol, identification cards, official documents, and uniforms.

The class valedictorian, Police Lieutenant Jervis Allen Ramos, urged his classmates to prove to Filipinos they are worthy of their taxes, trust and confidence.

"We are now ready to lead towards the greater goal of our life to serve and protect our people and our country to the fullest of our abilities," Ramos said.

He said the badge they are wearing should serve as a reminder of their responsibilities as public servants.

"It's our time to partake in all the endeavours of our institution and become the greatest version of ourselves," he said.
