Alleged kidnap leader with ties to Abu Sayyaf killed in Zamboanga Sibugay

ZAMBOANGA CITY - An alleged leader of a kidnap-for-ransom-group with ties with the Abu Sayyaf was killed in a firefight with government troops in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, an official disclosed Monday.
Lt. Col. Cyrus Belarmino, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Zamboanga Sibugay, said the firefight broke out around 7:35 a.m. Monday in Barangay Poblacion Muslim, Titay municipality.
Belarmino said the firefight took place along the highway of Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay after Mamay Aburi, the reported kidnap-for-ransom leader, engaged in a firefight when the troops launched a joint law enforcement operation to serve an arrest warrant on Aburi.
Belarmino said Aburi fled and was cornered and killed in Barangay Poblacion Muslim, Titay.
He said recovered from Aburi was a caliber .45 pistol with four live ammunition.
He said Aburi has warrants of arrest for violating Presidential Decree 1866 as amended by Republic Act 8294 and for robbery issued by the courts in the towns of Ipil and Imelda, Zamboanga Sibugay, respectively.
He said Aburi, who belongs to the Abral Abdusalam crime group operating in Zamboanga Sibugay, has ties with the Sulu-based ASG. DMS
