Alleged NPA killed in Negros Oriental

An alleged member of New People's Army (NPA) was killed while two soldiers were wounded in a separate clash in Negros Oriental on Friday, a military spokesman reported Saturday.
Captain Cenon Pancito III, spokesman of the 3rd Infantry Division, said soldiers of 62nd Infantry Battalion encountered two separate groups of NPAs in the hinterlands of Guihulngan City around 12am.
"A simultaneous encounter transpired between the two separate platoons of 62nd IB while on combat security patrol tracking the NPAs who harass and sowed fear among the populace in the hinterlands of Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental," he said.
Pancito said the running gun battle that lasted for about 30 minutes has resulted ino the wounding of two soldiers and the killing of still unidentified NPA member.
He said government forces are still pursuing the rebels.
Col. Inocencio Pasaporte, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, assures that despite the coronavirus pandemic the military is always in control of the situation.
“We assure everyone that despite the pandemic crises, we will not put our guards down and allow the NPAs to sow fear in the communities," he said. "We will pursue the NPAs to eradicate them in Negros Island.” Robina Asido/DMS
