An alleged leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) was killed in a joint military and police operation in Northern Samar last Friday.
A military report said slain was Salvador Nordan alias Badok or Gahi, leader of the sub-regional operational command (SROC) Emporium of NPA.
Operating troops of 803rd Infantry Brigade and Northern Samar Police Provincial Office were confirming a report from the populace on the presence of an armed group conducting extortion at Barangay Guba, Catarman, in Northern Samar around 10:10 am when they chanced upon Nordan’s group.
The firefight resulted in the death of Nordan, who was also facing murder and robbery cases in Northern Samar.
Recovered from him was one pistol with ammunition and subversive documentswhich includes lists of individuals providing support to the NPA in Northern Samar.
Col. Zosimo Oliveros, commander of the 803rd Infantry Brigade, thanked the community for their trust in giving information that will help them locate hideouts of the rebels.
“This only shows that they (are) tired of the terroristic activities these NPA members have caused not only to the military but also to the helpless civilians,” Oliveros said. Ella Dionisio/DMS
