Alleged NPA member killed in battle with soldiers in Occidental Mindoro

An alleged member of New People’s Army (NPA) was killed while some war materials were recovered in an encounter with government troops in Occidental Mindoro on Sunday afternoon.
1Lt. Xy-zon Meneses, 2nd Infantry Division Public Affairs Officer,said based on initial report the troops of 76th Infantry Battalion were conducting security patrol operation when they encountered around 20 armed men in the vicinity of Sitio Kalibunlibunan, Brgy Pinagturilan, Sta. Cruz around 2pm.
“The lawless group is believed to be part of the bandit group that attacked a security detachment in Nasugbu Batangas last 31 Jan 2017,” he said.
Meneses said the patrol was done in response to reported presence of the armed group.
The Philippine government halted its unilateral ceasefire with the New People’s Army on Friday. On Saturday, President Rodrigo Duterte said it is ending peace talks with the National Democratic Front (NDF). Robina Asido/ DMS
