A member of New People’s Army (NPA) was killed while three high powered firearms were recovered after a 15-minute firefight with government troops on earlyMonday morning.
Col. Arnulfo Marcelo Burgos, commander of the Army’s 202nd Brigade, said troops were conducting combat operation when they encountered around 15 rebels at the vicinity of Brgy Lumañag, Lian, Batangas about 3 am.
He said the combat operation was launched in response to reported presence of the NPA members who were conducting extortion.
“The troops in the area are still conducting pursuit operations to track down the fleeing bandits,” Burgos said. Robina Asido/DMS
