March 20, 2020

An alleged New People's Army (NPA) officer was arrested in a law enforcement operation in Surigao del Sur on Thursday morning, a military officer reported.

1Lt. Krisjuper Andreo Punsalan, civil military operations officer of the  3rd Special Forces Battalion, said arrested was  Gloria Campos Tumalon, alias Bae Glo, who has standing warrants of arrest on arson, kidnapping and serious illegal detention and destructive arson from RTC Bayugan City.

Punsalan said Tumalon was captured in  police and military law enforcement operation at  Purok 4, Barangay Diatagon, Lianga, Surigao del Sur.

"Arrested personality was duly informed of her constitutional rights and was brought to Lianga Municipal Police Station for documentation and proper disposition. She also has all the right for due process to defend herself in court," he said.

"The law enforcement units commend the concerned citizens, mostly member of indigenous peoples (IPs) in Diatagon, who immediately reported the presence of Tumalon who is in the most wanted personalities of PNP Regional Office 13," he added.

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said law enforcement operations, like serving of arrest warrants, will continue despite the declaration by President Rodrigo Duterte of a unilateral ceasefire with the communists on Wednesday.

Punsalan said Tumalon is "the sister of Pablito Sinzo Campos, a CNT (communist terrorist) leader nabbed last 2018 in Sibagat, Agusan del Sur and Emelda Campos Belandres, another CNT mastermind on the wanted list.

"Campos-Tumalon is also linked in the recent CNT harassments in Diatagon which wounded civilians in Sitio Emerald last February 21, the failed ambush attempt to government troops in Sitio Simuwao (Kilometer 9) on February 19," he said.

"She is also the alleged liaison officer that collects finances to provide supply to the CNTs," he added. Robina Asido/DMS
