Alleged members of New People’s Army (NPA) torched two heavy equipment owned by a construction company in Negros Oriental last Sunday. Captain Eduardo Precioso, chief of the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division public affairs office, said based on initial report burned down were a backhoe and a pay loader owned by Medalla Construction Company in the vicinity of Barangay Caticugan, Siaton, Negros Oriental around 1 am. “The construction company has been in the area for several years supporting the construction of various farm-to- market road projects in the area that would cater to several barangays and thus help improve their economic well-being,” he said. “For years, it has been the main problem of the people in these communities to have an accessible farm-to- market road to help advance their livelihood by connecting them to the main economic hub of Negros Oriental,” he added.
