”Ambo”, with maximum winds of 155 kph, threatens Eastern-Northern Samar

Typhoon "Ambo'' gained strength as it moves west at 15 kilometers per hour as it threatens  the Eastern Samar-Northern Samar area.

In its 8 am bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomic Services Administration (Pagasa) said ''Ambo'' was estimated at 185 kilometers southeast of Catarman, Northern Samar or 110 kilometers east-northeast of Borongan City.

It has maximum sustained winds of 155 kph and gusts of up to 180 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No.3 was raised over Northern Samar, the northern portion of Eastern Samar(Jipapad, Arteche, Maslog, Dolores,Oras, San Policarpio,Can-avid, Taft, Sulat,San Julian,Borongan City),and the northern portion of Samar (Calbayog City,Sta.Margarita,Gandara,Pagsanghan,San Jorge,Matuguinao,San Jose de Buan).

It was also raised over Sorsogon, eastern section of Albay (Legazpi City, Manito, Daraga,Camalig, Jovellar, Santo Domingo, Bacacay, Rapu-Rapu).

'' Winds of greater than 121 kph up to 170 kph may be expected in at least 18 hours,'' said Pagasa.

Pagasa said heavy rainfall outlook is '' heavy to intense  with at times torrential rains over Samar Provinces.''

It added rainfall will be ''moderate to heavy with at times intense rains over Sorsogon, Albay, Catanduanes, Masbate, and the rest of Eastern Visayas. DMS
