Año thanks public for high trust rating

Interior Secretary Eduardo Año on Wednesday said they are inspired to better serve the public amid the continuing crisis on the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) after receiving a high trust rating.
According to a poll by consultancy firm EON Group and research firm Tangere, the DILG received 82.19 percent trust rating from 5,425 survey respondents using the Tangere app across the country.
The report said people’s trust in the government and its institutions especially during the COVID-19 crisis are influenced by the government’s action and engagement with the people.
Año said that positive public feedback on the DILG’s actions is a significant push for the department’s officials and employees, whether working in the field or from home, to work double time as the battle against the virus continues.
“We are glad that despite the sacrifices of the people, their trust to the DILG is still high. We are encouraged to work more honestly, efficiently, and reliable with the cooperation of the local government and our attached agencies, especially the Philippine National Police (PNP),” he said.
“As they say, in times of emergency, good leadership emerges. That’s why I thank and congratulate the local chief executives who showed honesty, efficient and care in serving their constituents during this COVID-19 crisis,” said Año.
The secretary said the DILG, together with all of its attached agencies, are doing its duties in ensuring that the spirit and letter of Republic Act No. 11469 or the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act are implemented.
“For the country to heal as one, the national government and all LGUs must fully cooperate towards a unified and orderly implementation of the Bayanihan law. When we say Bayanihan, let’s set aside any criticisms and politicking,” he said.
Based on a news report, nine out of 10 have high trust in President Rodrigo Duterte and the government in handling the COVID-19 crisis.
Duterte got a 94.03 percent trust rating, according to a poll.
Government agencies on the frontline of battling the COVID-19 pandemic also got high trust marks.
The Department of Health got 84.79 percent, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development got 74.89 percent.
The report said “cooperation and compliance with government mandates hinges on public trust, especially in a time of unprecedented crisis when collective anxiety and uncertainty are high”. Ella Dionisio/DMS
