July 26, 2020
Another police frontliner has died due to coronavirus disease (COVID-19), bringing the total to 10, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Sunday.
According to Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac, PNP spokesperson, the PNP Health Service recorded the 10th PNP fatality with the death of a 46-year-old male police commissioned officer who was recently assigned in the national headquarters in Camp Crame.
Banac said PNP chief General Archie Gamboa expressed his grief and condolences to the family and relatives of the cop.
“Reports said he died on Wednesday, July 22, five days after he was tested positive in an RT-PCR test last July 17,” he said.
"We are deeply saddened by this news that another police frontliner died due to this dreaded disease. Just recently, we added safety measures to ensure the health and wellness of our men on the ground,” he added.
Based on PNP's latest data, the 10 recorded COVID-related deaths were among the 1,932 confirmed coronavirus cases recorded since March. Since then, 706 cops have recovered.
Currently, the PNP doctors are monitoring 2,449 personnel who are suspected PUIs (persons under investigation) and 725 probable PUIs as most of them served as police frontliners during Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) and Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) in the last three months.
