Army extols heroism of eight soldiers who died in Jolo blasts

Army chief Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana extolled the heroism of the eight soldiers who died during the twin bombings in Jolo, Sulu on Monday.
“The Philippine Army grieves over the death of these men. We honor their sacrifice in serving our country and protecting the people of Jolo, Sulu,” he said.
At least 15 persons died in the explosions, officials said.
Sobejana also assures that the military will provide necessary assistance for the families of the slain soldiers.
“To the bereaved families of our troops, we extend our deepest condolences. Rest assured that the Army is here to help you and is ready to extend the necessary assistance,” he added.
Col. Ramon Zagala, Army spokesman, identified the eight soldiers who died during the consecutive bomb attacks in Brgy. Walled City as Staff Sgt. Louie Cuarteros, Staff Sgt. Manuelito Oria, Pvt. Omair Muksan, Pvt. Juvienjay Emlani, Pvt. John Ray Paler, Pvt. James Apolinario, Pvt. Aiub Sahid from the 21st Infantry Battalion and Pvt. John Agustin from 35th Infantry Battalion.
Zagala said the remains of the eight soldiers were sent to their respective provinces and will be given funeral honors.
"The Philippine Army will provide burial assistance, command financial assistance and special financial assistance," he said.
"Additionally, the families are entitled to receive capital, health, educational, and shelter assistance among others," he added. Robina Asido/DMS
