Around 2,000 PNP personnel to be assigned near their province

October 12, 2020

Around 2, 000 police personnel will be sent to their new regional assignments this week, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Monday.

“Simultaneously nationwide, we are sending-off within this week some 2,000 PNP personnel to their new regional assignments as an initial step towards full localization in the deployment of personnel,” said PNP chief General Camilo Cascolan said in a press briefing.

Cascolan said the mass movement of personnel, initially covers inter-regional reassignment of personnel to their hometowns and places of permanent residence to give them a strong sense of ownership of their own locality and induce better performance.

“NCRPO (National Capital Region Police Office) and PRO4A (Calabarzon) are yet to fully implement the localization program pending some adjustments in the deployment and staffing structure of lower units to ensure that the mass movement will not create a void in the personnel complement of these regional offices,” he said.

“Let me emphasize that the underlying consideration in this localization program is the 1:1 replacement or swapping policy,” he added.

Last month, Cascolan said the program will attain a goal of more effective law enforcement by prioritizing the welfare of every PNP personnel and reinforcing family solidarity.

Based on the Section 63 of Republic Act 8551, PNP members with the ranks of patrolman/woman up to police executive master sergeant shall be assigned to the city and municipality of their recruitment or place of residence or if not possible, to the closest municipality, province or regions to his residence.

According to the Directorate for Personnel and Records Management (DPRM) a total of 8,561 personnel expressed their intention to be reassigned to areas where they live. Ella Dionisio/DMS
