Assistant city engineer in Calbayog shot by motorbike-riding gunmen

An assistant city engineer in Calbayog was killed in a shooting incident in Samar province on Tuesday morning.

PO2 Renante Niedo of the Calbayog police identified the victim as Rafaelito Serrano, 50, the assistant city engineer at the Calbayog City Engineering Office.

He said based on initial report the victim was driving a vehicle when he was shot from behind by unidentified motorcycle-riding suspects in front of his house along Navarro St. in Barangay Awang East, Calbayog City around 8:20 am.

Niedo said the victim who sustained a gunshot wound on his head was rushed to Our Lady of Porziuncola Hospital, Inc. but he died around 8:45 am.

The suspects fled towards the direction of Magsaysay Boulevard based on the footage captured by the CCTV camera in the area.

He said authorities are trying to determine the motive and to identify the suspects. Robina Asido/DMS
