At least 44,000 apprehended for violating ordinances in Metro Manila: police

At least 44,000 people were apprehended in Metro Manila for violating ordinances and other laws since President Rodrigo Duterte ordered police to round up loiterers last month.
Chief Superintendent Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), said 44,230 persons were accosted from June 13 to July 11.
Majority of these cases, or 20, 325, took place in the Eastern Police District.
The Southern Police District came in second with 8,292 persons followed by the Manila Police District with 6,009 and Quezon City Police District with 5,686.
The Northern Police District had 3,918 violators.
Smoking in public places was the most common offense with 14,635 cases.
Eleazar said 26,415 violators were released and warned not to repeat their offenses.
Minors accounted for 6,952 cases. DMS
