At least eight reported dead in Cagayan Valley region: police

At least eight persons were reported dead in the Cagayan Valley region where Typhoon Ompong made landfall on Saturday, police said Monday.
Superintendent Chevalier Iringan, spokesman of the Cagayan Valley regional police office, said four died due to landslides in Kayapa, Nueva Vizcaya and four perished in Cagayan Province.
Eleven people were reported injured throughout the region, said Iringan.
Partial damage to agriculture in Cagayan was placed at P8.5 billion, with infrastructure damage set at P35.4 million. Damage to crops in Isabela was estimated at P1.744 billion while damage to agriculture in Quirino was estimated at P72.6 million.
In Nueva Vizcaya, damage to crops was estimated at P66.9 million while infrastructure damage was placed at P4.5 million.
Damage in Batanes is still being assessed, the police report said.
Four bridges in Cagayan and four bridges in Isabela were not passable, police said. DMS
