Barangay chairman shot in Cotabato town

A barangay chairman was wounded in a shooting incident in Cotobato province on Tuesday morning. In a report, the Cotabato Provincial Police identified the victim as Barangay Sallab Chairman Ferdinand Remonde Cariaga, 50 a resident of Magpet, Cotabato. Based on initial report, Cariaga was on his way to Magpet Municipal Hall on board his motorcycle when two unidentified male suspects flagged him down and shot him several times in the vicinity of Kabacan bridge in Purok Raman, Brgy. Poblacion, Magpet around 8:45 am. Cariaga was supposed to attend the municipal peace and order council meeting. Despite gunshot wounds in different parts of his body, Cariaga was able to run and seek help from a bystander. The victim was rushed to the Kidapawan Medical Specialist Hospital while the suspects fled to an unknown direction. The report said crime scene investigators found 11 fired cartridges and one live ammunition all from a caliber .45 pistol. “Subject pieces of evidence were brought by the SOCO ( Scene of the Crime) team for ballistic examination. Investigation still going on to determine the motive and possible identity of the fleeing suspects,” the report noted. Robina Asido/DMS
