A member of Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT) was killed by a local terrorist group in Sulu on Monday afternoon.
Brig. Gen. Ignatius Patrimonio, head of the 1102nd Infantry Brigade said residents of Barangay Igasan were harvesting farm products when they were fired upon by an undetermined number of armed men.
Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr., Western Mindanao Command chief, said the incident resulted in the death of a BPAT member identified as Tali Lakibul.
Lt. Col. Rafael Caido, commander of the 6th Special Forces Battalion said the troops immediately coordinated with BPAT members of Igasan and Kabbontakas to recover the body of Lakibul.
“We also deployed troops to establish a blockade in the withdrawal route of the LTG (local terrorist group),” Caido said.
JTF Sulu Commander Brig. Gen. William Gonzales said that "the LTG is anxious because the people of Patikul have declared the group as persona non-grata in the municipality. That is why they create havoc to demonstrate their power." Robina Asido/DMS
