Battle between ” moral and immoral” in Senate hearing on minors allegedly recruited by NPA
August 14, 2019
Senator Ronald "Bato' dela Rosa said there is no battle between the left and right-leaning groups, but between ''legal and illegal, moral and immoral.''
Dela Rosa, head of the committee responsible for the Senate hearing on Resolution Number 38 or the issue of minors recruited by the New People's Army, said: "Is it morally acceptable to induce minors to become armed rebels?"
During the second hearing on Wednesday, former recruits of rebel group gave their statements testifying that alleged recruitment of students in Manila are true.
"This hearing is about protecting the basic unit of our society, the Filipino family. As a Senator of the Republic and as a parent myself, I am convinced that I am called upon to protect the Filipino family as the basic social institution and to ensure that this institution remains intact," Dela Rosa said.
The senator as well as the authorities met other resource persons during a closed-door executive session. He said "politically exclusive" statements were said.
"There were revelations revealed during the executive session. Very politically exclusive, we will not reveal it yet," he explained. Cristina Eloisa Baclig/DMS
