Bautista says impeachment “unnecessary” but will comply with House verdict
October 11, 2017
Commission on Elections (Comelec) chairman Andres Bautista said his impeachment at the House of Representatives is an "unnecessary" move by lawmakers since he has tendered his resignation to Malacanang.
In a statement he posted in his Twitter account late Wednesday, Bautista said he does not agree with the decision made by the Lower House but assured lawmakers he will comply.
"While it may be an unnecessary move since I already tendered my resignation to the President today and effective end of the year to ensure a smooth transition, I will abide by the Constitution and the relevant rules regarding the impeachment process," said Bautista.
"I acknowledge that all members of the House of Representatives are entitled to their own opinion," said the poll chief.
"It is unfortunate that the decision of the House Committee on Justice to dismiss the impeachment complaint against me was overturned this afternoon by the House of Representatives," added Bautista.
On late Wednesday, the Lower House voted 137-75-2 to reverse the decision of the House Committee on Justice to dismiss an impeachment complaint against Bautista. DMS
