A police officer from Bocaue, Bulacan was arrested by the Philippine National Police-Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (PNP-IMEG) last Saturday for his alleged involvement in robbery extortion activities.
Police Brigadier General Ronald Lee, IMEG director, said operatives arrested Police Chief Master Sergeant David Gatchalian in front of his house at Mendoza St. Brgy Lolomboy, in Bocaue, Bulacan around 6:54 pm following an entrapment operation.
Gatchalian was assigned at the Bocaue Municipal Police Station.
“We have received information regarding the practice of the suspect to threaten known drug personalities and demand cash in exchange of protection for their illegal activities," Lee said.
He said the suspect was arrested shortly after receiving the P10,000 boodle money and a cellular phone from the complainant.
The IMEG director said Central Luzon police regional director, Brigadier General Rodel Sermonia, ordered an investigation into the possibility that the accused was acting in cahoots with some other police officers and men in the conduct of their illegal activities.
Gatchalian was immediately whisked at Marilao Municipal Police Station for booking and filing of criminal charges for robbery-extortion.
Aside from criminal charges, Lee said the suspect will also face administrative complaint. Ella Dionisio/DMS
