Bulacan environment execs axed for coddling illegal mining activities

The Office of the Ombudsman has ordered the dismissal from the service of two high-ranking officials from the Bulacan Environment and Natural Resources Office (BENRO) for grave misconduct in connection with mining activities in the province, a statement said Friday. In a decision approved by Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales, Provincial Department Head Rustico de Belen and Antonio Cacdac from the Natural Resources Management Division of the BENRO, were ordered dismissed from the service. They were also meted accessory penalties of perpetual disqualification from holding public office, cancellation of eligibility and forfeiture of retirement benefits. In case of separation from the service, the penalty is convertible to a fine equivalent to respondents’ one year salary. DMS
