Caloocan Mayor Oscar Malapitan on Friday said Caloocan City Medical Center- South will be temporarily closed after a nurse and medical technologist tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
In a statement, Malapitan said the hospital will be closed from July 17 to July 23 to decontaminate the facility.
“I regret to inform the public that there are some medical staff from Caloocan City Medical Center-South who tested positive on COVID-19,” he said.
“As of now, the nurse and medtech who tested positive on the virus are now undergoing quarantine and contact tracing is being conducted to prevent the spread of the virus,” he added.
Malapitan said patients who are admitted will continue to receive medical attention. The out-patient department at the Old City Hall Plaza in Caloocan City North Medical Center (CCNMC) will continue to operate.
The mayor also said CCMC reached its 'overflowing capacity' for COVID-19 patients.
“We are encouraging the public to bring the positive or suspected COVID-19 patients to different hospitals,” Malapitan said.
Recently, Caloocan had one of the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the National Capitol Region.
As of July 16, Caloocan City has recorded 1,611 COVID-19 cases where 88 died while 952 have recovered from the virus.
Malapitan appealed for understanding and assured the public authorities are doing everything to make sure that the CCMC will immediately open. Ella Dionisio/DMS
