Carpio is acting chief justice starting Wednesday
October 9, 2018
For the second time this year, Senior Justice Antonio Carpio takes the temporary helm of the Supreme Court starting Wednesday as Chief Justice Teresita Leonardo-de Castro
Carpio became acting chief justice last March when then Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno took her leave and later ousted from the Supreme Court through a quo warrantuo petition until August de Castro assumed her position.
During the search for Sereno's replacement, Carpio declined his automatic nomination as chief justice. But last week, Carpio said there is “no more reason to decline” an automatic nomination. He added he has not formally accepted the nomination. DMS
