Cascolan hopes PNPA graduates will be assigned outside Metro Manila to hone skills

October 28, 2020

The chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday hoped the graduating class of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) will be  assigned outside Metro Manila to hone their skills.

During a testimonial parade at PNPA, Police Gen. Camilo Cascolan said being assigned in far-flung areas is one of the best training sites.

“I hope you will be assigned not in NCR (National Capital Region), not in cities. Go outside because that is where you will learn… and that’s how I really learned,” Cascolan said.

“I have been a cadet myself and it is really very, very hard most especially when you graduate and be assigned in far-flung areas but it is one of the best training sites, the training and requirement that each and every one of us needs,” he added.

Cascolan told the cadets every one will be able to learn the true mechanics of being a PNP officer.

“What matters is you keep in mind that you are the cream of the crop. Your main responsibility while you are in the academy is to study, acquire, and hone your skills and prepare yourselves well for the rigors of being a police officer…. The people and our country expect much from us,” he said.

“Always live by the PNP motto: 'to learn today to live tomorrow' and let our people regard and say that, our police officers are responsible, respectable, and disciplined,” Cascolan added.

He also requested the Directorate for Human Resource and Doctrine Development (HRDD) to study the possibility of removing the Officers Basic Course (OBC) from PNPA graduates.

“I will be asking the HRDD, I wish that new graduates of PNPA cadets would not be taking the Officers Basic Course… The OBC shall be inculcated in your curriculum… PNPA cadets should not (undergo) OBC,” Cascolan said.

“I hope HRDD will be able to study that well… You should be assigned immediately to the field because you have already been taught and after three or five years you should come back and get your advanced OBC,” he added.

Cascolan hoped all the cadets will be always safe as they are needed this coming holiday season or if a natural disaster occurs.

“What we need from you is a legacy, a legacy that you would be able to maintain the righteousness, leadership and discipline the community wants from us,” Cascolan said. Ella Dionisio/DMS
