August 18, 2020
Operations in Cataingan port were temporary suspended following the magnitude 6.6 earthquake that hit the province of Masbate on Tuesday morning.
Commodore Armando Balilo, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) spokesman, said there was no maritime incident during the tremor but the PCG personnel reported the pavement of Cataingan port was damaged.
"The trips of vessels were temporary halted pending assessment of safety inspectors of the port. Coast Guard station Caitingan was also damaged but their personnel are safe," he said.
Balilo said the temporary suspension of the port operation was lifted at 12 noon.
He said the tremor was also felt at the Coast Guard Regional Training Center in Masbate where the 476 female trainees were undergoing training.
"After the earthquake, the Coast Guard Station in Masbate immediately created a Deployable Response Group (DRG) to respond to Cataingan Port and in nearby areas," he said. Robina Asido/DMS
