April 15, 2020

Cavite police arrested 1,256 violators of the enhanced community quarantine and seized around P75 million worth of illegal drugs during their overnight anti-criminality drive last Tuesday.

Colonel Marlon Santos, the Cavite provincial director,  said among the total arrested for violating the EO-10 Series 2020 or order placing the Cavite under community quarantine, 336 were for disregarding curfew hours, 12 ignored the liquor ban, 16 for non-cooperation or resisted the arrest, and 892 were held in checkpoints for having no barangay quarantine pass.

Santos said some violators were charged, others were fined, while some submitted themselves for community services and spiritual empowerment.

In their campaign against illegal drugs, police operatives conducted 12 anti-illegal drugs operations which resulted in the arrest of 35 alleged drug suspects, including two Africans and two Muslims, and confiscation of 11 kilos of suspected shabu amounting to P75, 019, 606.

Santos said four of the 35 arrested were also charged for illegal possession of firearms.

Also arrested were 11 for rape, estafa, illegal gambling, obstruction of justice and direct assault; reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and damage to properties; and anti-fencing.

The arrested suspects were brought to police stations to prepare for inquest proceedings to be filed before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor.

Pieces of evidence were brought to crime scene investigators for laboratory examination.

Santos encouraged all chiefs of police to enforce the ECQ.

“This is our best opportunity to politely warn  and educate those arrested violators about the huge possibilities of getting infected should they continue to arbitrary loiter around in their community,” he said. Ella Dionisio/DMS
