Cavite temporarily closes malls in province due to lack of social distancing
May 18, 2020
Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla said Monday all malls in the province will be temporarily closed until plans are presented for social distancing.
In the Cavite provincial government's Facebook post, Remulla said he spoke to the mayors Sunday following the hordes of people which went to the malls.
Remulla said the mayors joined him in signing the executive order Sunday night.
Cavite province has been placed under General Community Quarantine.
''All mall in Cavite are temporarily closed due to their social distancing. Outside the mall before opening; inside the mall during operations; no social distancing policy was found,''said Remulla. He said people even strolled inside the mall after buying their items.
He added drug stores and supermarkets inside malls will be closed.
''This is just (for) a moment until one can present plans for social distancing,'' said Remulla.
The decision was also promoted by 36 new COVID-19 cases from 239 on May 13 to 275 on May 17.
''Many of you will hate me. It's better that you hate me and you don't have COVID-19 than you are happy with me and the sick are increasing,'' said Remulla.
''Sorry, the system has been abused and need to tighten up. There are many groceries and drug stores in your town,'' added Remulla. DMS
