CHED wants laboratory, internship to be done in January
July 16, 2020
Commission on Higher Education Chairman Prospero de Vera has proposed that the laboratory, on-the-job training, internship and other activities that would require students' physical presence be moved to January next year amid the new coronavirus pandemic.
De Vera raised the recommendation during the taped meeting with President Rodrigo Duterte in Malacañang on Wednesday night.
"Let us delay until January and we will order the universities that all subjects with lab, OJT, internship, et cetera will be rescheduled in the second semester," he said.
During the first semester, he said the regular classes will be lectures.
CHED has asked colleges and universities to hold classes online as much as possible, especially in areas which are still under general community quarantine.
"So the options will be from the more open limited face-to-face in low-risk MGCQ (modified general community quarantine) areas to the most conservative do it in second semester," De Vera said.
The official also sought guidance for private schools and local government-run educational instititions which have no internet connection at all.
He also reported that there are private schools who plan to shutdown their operations due to the huge decline in the number of enrollees. Celerina Monte/DMS
