Cities submit reports on clearing operations: DILG

September 30, 2019

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Monday said all local government units in Metro Manila have submitted reports on road clearing operations

DILG Undersecretary Marivel Sacendocillo said all cities submitted reports before the 60-day deadline ended on Sunday. She added all reports received by the department will be validated until October 4.

"Actually what we have now are reports from the local government units. These are reports that are being validated starting now until October 4," said Sacendocillo.

"All LGUs in NCR (National Capital Region) submitted reports on the percentage of clearing compliance (in their respective cities)," she added.

The DILG are eyeing to release results based on verification of reports by October 5.

According to her, DILG will follow parameters for the validation process. She added that since road clearing situations may differ from city to city, the department will find the norm to evaluate each report.

"Given all the reports, we have to establish the norm to identify what has passed and what has not," she said.

"We are not assuming that there will be complete clearing because what we directed the LGUs was at the minimum, clear the primary and secondary roads because there will be a lot of challenges with tertiary roads,' she added.

Sacendocillo explained that even though reports are still subject to validation, local governments have exerted efforts in clearing road obstructions.

"They have done a great job already on getting rid of the obstructions significantly. A lot of streets were cleared and reclaimed for public use," she said.

She added that aside from obstructing infrastructures, one of the biggest issues that local government units faced was solving illegal parking.

"The challenge was the illegal parking. We told them that while (they) are in transition of finding long-term solution for illegal parking, they can utilize a portion of their tertiary road to be used within a certain period of time," she reiterated. Cristina Eloisa Baclig/DMS
