Class opening in GCQ areas moved to September – Palace
April 24, 2020
President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the late opening of classes to September in areas under general community quarantine as part of the precaution to prevent further spread of coronavirus disease in the country.
According to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, this was one of the proposals of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases, which Duterte gave his nod.
"The option for low-risk to moderate areas to open by industry consider for 100 percent closure... because the transmitters are the youth ages zero to 20: all the schools, consider late opening in September, except online learning," Roque said in a taped meeting with the President and was aired on Friday morning.
The Department of Education earlier said that opening of classes could be moved to August instead of June due to COVID-19 problem.
Roque said other sectors, which remained 100 percent closed even if the areas are under GCQ or those moderate- to low-risk areas are "the so-called kid industry; tourism." Celerina Monte/DMS
