Classes start in Mindanao State University
August 22, 2017
Mindanao State University opened its campus and held classes Tuesday in Marawi despite a harassment against a military detachment in Marantao, Lanao del Sur early in the day.
“Opening of classes starts today. Students in buses will be moving from Iligan to MSU,” said Capt. Jo-ann Petinglay, Western Mindanao Command Spokesman.
Petinglay also denied a reported lockdown of the campus amid harassment of a nearby military detachment.
“We would like to clarify that there is no lockdown at Mindanao State University (MSU) Campus or immediate vicinity,” she said.
But Petinglay confirmed government forces implemented a stricter checkpoint in the area because of the harassment against a detachment which is around three kilometers away.
“We also would like to ask your patience and understanding if our checkpoints are a little strict this morning, which is due to the incident in Marantao detachment at 5:30 this morning,” she said. Robina Asido/DMS
