January 12, 2020
The Commission on Audit has condemned the killing of its auditor in Maguindanao province.
In a statement, COA Public Information Office Director Jonathan B. Beltran urged the authorities to bring to justice the suspects in the death of Guiaria Bagundang Akmad, the suprevising auditor of Maguindanao province, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
Akmad was gunned down by unidentified assailants in Cotabato City last Friday.
"We strongly urge the authorities to act swiftly on the case and conduct an impartial investigation so that the perpetrators may be brough to justice," Beltran said.
The nature and work of the COA auditors expose them to risk their safety, he noted.
However, despite the threats, he said the COA auditors shall not be deterred from doing their constitutional duty.
"We ask the public to pray for the family of Auditor Akmad, and for the safety of our auditors and for their steadfast courage and integrity," Beltran added. Celerina Monte/DMS
