Coast Guard chief recognizes effort, sacrifices of frontline personnel vs COVID-19

June 12, 2020

Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Commandant Vice Admiral George Ursabia Jr expresses his sincerest gratitude to the men and women of the service who  serve the Filipino people by fighting for public health and safety amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ursabia especially recognizes the selfless dedication and professionalism of PCG’s frontline personnel, doctors, nurses, and medical technologists who are securing the welfare and safety of thousands of returning overseas Filipinos from the moment they arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) until they reach their home provinces or home cities.

Ursabia highlighted the important roles of PCG’s frontline personnel in upholding maritime law enforcement, maritime security, and maritime safety by conducting 24/7 seaborne patrol operations in the Philippine seas to monitor maritime traffic and ensure the safety of Filipino ship crew and local fishermen, as well as those who are augmenting the forces of the police and military in managing more than 200 quarantine control points nationwide.

The PCG acknowledged the efforts the men and women of the PCG who assist the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and various local government units (LGUs) to make sure that all affected families receive relief assistance and continue to be provided with further aid, as needed.

“As the country commemorates the 122nd anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence, let us also recognize the efficient service of the PCG and other frontline government agencies that continue to uphold public health and safety, regardless of the sacrifices that come with it. I am proud to hear of the integrity and passion of our public servants, especially through the testimonies of our target stakeholders who personally benefitted from our initiatives. As the new normal begins, rest assured that I will stir the PCG in moving forward – committed to achieve more, as the President leads our nation to heal as one,” Ursabia said.

As the country’s frontline workers continue to protect the nation from the threats of COVID-19, Ursabia urged the general public to comply with government protocols, support national initiatives, and dedicate their efforts towards building a healthier and safer home for the Filipino people.
