June 20, 2019

Vice Admiral Gaudencio Collado, Jr.  became the next vice chief of staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines in a ceremony in Quezon City on Thursday.

"The incoming VCSAFP is Vice Admiral Gaudencio Collado, Jr. He is the incumbent deputy chief of staff of the AFP," said Brig. Gen. Edgard Arevalo, AFP spokesman.

Collado replaces Lt. Gen. Salvador Melchor who will retire Friday at the retirement and change of command ceremony in Camp Aguinaldo.

Arevalo said Collado "is an accomplished Navy Officer having commanded four Navy ships, including BRP Ang Pangulo, and held various sensitive staff and leadership positions in the Philippine Fleet."

"He (Collado) is known in the Navy to be an experienced,  no-nonsense, but down-to-earth, diligent team player whose attention to details inspires peers and subordinates to accomplish their tasks with distinction. These are the attributes he brought with him to the General Headquarters," he said.

"His perspectives, as a sea-going Navy Officer, compliment that of the AFP Chief-of-Staff’s (who is an Army officer) and that of the outgoing Vice Chief of Staff  (from the Air Force) to complete the views from the lens of the three AFP Major services in many respects of command, leadership, and management of the AFP," he added.
